Job Summary
Design and build tooling primarily for short-run and prototype work in a high-mix, low-volume precision manufacturing environment. This role supports tooling for small presses and precision components, requiring strong milling and grinding experience, troubleshooting ability, and independent problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and troubleshoot tooling for precision components and small press applications
• Set up and operate manual milling, grinding, and machining equipment
• Support tooling for kick presses, small hydraulic presses, and forming operations
• Interpret blueprints and engineering drawings (including GD&T)
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments
• Collaborate with engineers and shop personnel to improve tooling and processes
• Work independently to complete complex setups and tooling builds
Machinery / Equipment Used
• Manual Vertical Mills (Bridgeport, ProtoTRAK)
• Surface Grinders (Okamoto, Harig)
• Manual Lathes
• CNC Mills (3–4 axis VMC – Fanuc, Haas, Makino)
Required Qualifications
• Experience in tool and die, tooling, or precision machining with exposure to tooling or die work
• Hands-on experience with milling and grinding equipment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings (GD&T)
• Experience with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
• Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
